the pug is actually a breed of pit bull thats why its so vicious shes actually holding that vicious pit pug back so it doesn't eviscerate the deer carcass the pit pugs gaze has turned to the behatted man. It yearns for more death.

My dad and, to a lesser extent, I have been regular deer hunters for a long time. One fall evening a few years ago my dad calls from the ~65 acres of timber they own and tells me that he shot a doe and needs me to come out with my pickup to help him dress it and bring it back to their house. I throw on my ratty clothes, hop in the truck and meet him at the timber where we proceed to field dress the doe and carry drag her back to the truck. Dragging a big, limp, bloody doe is a dirty job so by the time we're all done I have a good bit of blood smeared on my clothes and boots.
We drive home and I park the truck in his garage so we could just leave the doe in it and he could take it to the locker the next morning. No big deal since, at that time, the wife and I lived about 2 blocks from my parents.
As I walk home I start thinking about what I look like: A guy walking down a dark street in ratty clothes and big rubber boots, carrying a flashlight and a roll of paper towels....covered in blood.
Thankfully no cops drove by.

This. The woman in the photo is brave to hold such a beast without gloves next to a fresh kill.

haha I know that mess. I kept reading thinking you left it there for a few minutes and a pack of wild dogs a la Bumpus Dogs from the Xmas story ravaged it haha

Haha, thankfully we've never been approached by anything while field dressing (I keep the gun nice and close just in case). That big pile of guts is gone in less than a day though...

That actually sounds like a decent reason to carry a sidearm. I'd like to go deer hunting with my Super RedHawk sometime. Not sure how well I'll do though because without a scope, I top out at about 25 yards maybe a little further but that's as big as the range I shoot at. I haven't bucked up and gotten one yet but I've read a few articles about people shooting with excellent accuracy at fairly long range (for a handgun): http://www.chuckhawks.com/ruger_super_re… 2" group at 100 yards? Obviously the accuracy is there, I just need to work on myself.

I think here in IA you need a special permit to hunt with handgun. My dad usually carries his XD9 with him when he's using the black powder rifle, though. There have been a handful of cougar sightings around here the last few years.

Is the kind of thing where you have to ask and they'll give you a permit? Essentially, that's how "shall issue" CCW works: attend the class, instructor signs you off, file paperwork, pass background check.

Iowa is a shall issue state for carry, but if I remember correctly handgun hunting permits are only granted based on disability or possibly age for senior citizens.
